SPRINGFIELD, IL— In what experts are calling a not-so-tragic turn of events, local husband Daniel Carter has suddenly taken a deep and unwavering interest in his wife’s MC romance reading habits—after realizing just how much he benefits from them.
“I don’t know what’s in those books, and frankly, I don’t care,” Daniel admitted, sipping his morning coffee with the self-satisfied air of a man who just unlocked life’s greatest cheat code. “All I know is that she reads one, and I… reap the rewards.”
Daniel, who spent months sighing dramatically whenever his wife, Emily, cracked open yet another motorcycle club romance, is now personally restocking her Kindle with alarming enthusiasm.
“At first, I thought he was being sweet,” Emily said, glancing at the towering stack of MC romance paperbacks that mysteriously arrived on their doorstep. “Then I realized—this man has never been this supportive of any of my hobbies before.”
Daniel did not deny the allegations.
“I mean, let’s be honest here,” he shrugged. “One minute she’s immersed in some story about a growly biker who can’t keep his hands off his woman, and the next minute—well, I get to be the closest available warm body. I’d be stupid not to encourage this.”
Friends and family have noted a distinct change in Daniel’s behavior, reporting that he’s gone from mildly indifferent to suspiciously accommodating whenever Emily wants to read.
“He literally volunteered to take the kids to his mom’s for the weekend so she could ‘focus on her stories,’” said Emily’s best friend, Sarah. “I have never seen a man work this hard to protect a woman’s reading time. He’s up to something.”
Though Daniel originally had no interest in MC romance, he now considers himself a silent but loyal advocate.
“I used to roll my eyes at the brooding, possessive biker dudes in these books,” he admitted. “But now? I say let them thrive. Let them all be 6’4” and emotionally constipated. I hope every fictional biker in existence treats their woman like she hung the damn moon.”
At press time, Daniel was spotted downloading yet another MC romance onto Emily’s Kindle while muttering, “For the good of the marriage.”
