LOS ANGELES, CA—In a statement nobody expected to be necessary, legendary rock band My Chemical Romance has officially addressed the growing confusion between their emo legacy and the wildly popular genre of MC (motorcycle club) romance novels.
“We would like to clarify, once and for all, that My Chemical Romance is NOT an outlaw biker gang,” said frontman Gerard Way in a press release Wednesday. “We have no turf, no clubhouse, and the only thing we ‘ride or die’ for is emotionally devastating lyrics and theatrical stage presence.”
Despite this statement, fans remain divided as social media continues to explode with posts from confused listeners who claim they have “accidentally fallen” into the MC romance genre.
“It started with one TikTok, and now my Kindle is filled with stories about dangerously sexy bikers named Hawk, Ryder, and Diesel,” tweeted one fan. “I don’t even know who I am anymore.”
Another MCR die-hard confessed, “I was trying to find fanfiction about Gerard, but now I’m three books deep into a series where a tattooed biker takes a girl hostage and calls her ‘mine.’ Honestly? No regrets.”
The confusion escalated when a group of MCR fans reportedly showed up to a biker rally in full emo regalia, only to discover that “MC” did not stand for My Chemical Romance—leading to an awkward but surprisingly respectful cultural exchange between the two groups.
“They started throwing up the devil horns at us and talking about ‘The Black Parade,’ so we thought maybe they were, like, a European club,” admitted real-life MC member ‘Tank’ Sullivan. “Turns out, they were just looking for someone named ‘Frank Iero.’”
MCR’s public statement, however, does not seem to be slowing the momentum of the trend. Online bookseller, Hope Stone Books, reported a surge in MC romance sales, with many first-time readers admitting they were originally just looking for concert tickets.
One anonymous publishing executive commented, “This is the best crossover event we’ve seen since Twilight fans accidentally discovered Fifty Shades of Grey.”
At press time, Gerard Way had been spotted flipping through the first few pages of Hawk from the Guardians of Mayhem series, muttering, “I mean... I kinda get it.”
